The pyramids of Giza were the last successful step in a complicated process that lasted for hundreds of years. However, why did the pharaohs prefer the pyramid shape in particular? The shape of the pyramid represented the idea of cosmogony or the origin of the world. They believed that the pyramid is the means that the soul of the deceased carries to reach heaven and the afterlife according to Pharaonic religious texts, texts of the pyramids and the book of the dead. That is why we observe the pyramid shape on top of some obelisks and even smaller tombs in southern Egypt.

The pyramid of Khufu

The pyramid of Cheops, the largest among the Pyramids of Egypt, belongs to King Pharaoh Cheops (Khufu), the second pharaoh of the fourth dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Egypt. Cheops built the great pyramid of Giza in 2560 BC to be his eternal tomb on earth waiting to climb through the giant pyramid to make contact with the sun (Raa). Construction work took more than 20 years to complete the pyramid and funerary temples.

The construction of the Pyramid of Cheops in southern Cairo in the province of Giza (Khufu) still amazes tourists traveling to Egypt. The Pyramid of Cheops, or the Great Pyramid of Giza, is one of the most amazing constructions in the world and one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. This huge pyramid weighs approximately more than six million tons. Some of the stones that were used in its construction weigh from 3 to 25 tons.

However, the pyramid was built with exact measurements that he couldn't find even a half-millimeter error. Perhaps that is why many travelers visit Egypt to see the grandeur of the Pyramid of Cheops. The original height of the Great Pyramid of Giza was 146 meters original height. Each side of the pyramid of Cheops measures exactly 230.4 meters. To be completed in 20 years, ancient Egyptian workers had to move, cut, and build more than 800 tons of stones every day.

The Great Pyramid of Cheops in Giza along with many other pharaonic monuments attracts travelers from all over the world to spend their holidays in Egypt. Explored every day by numerous tourists who spend their travels in Egypt, the Great Pyramid of Giza stood as the tallest building in the world for more than 3,800 years. The pyramid became the second tallest construction in the world until the completion of Lincoln Cathedral, built in England in the 13th century. The precision of the sides of the Pyramid of Cheops is extraordinarily surprising. The four sides of the pyramid are exactly parallel to the four directions of the compass; West, east, north, and south.

Many travelers touring Egypt would love to explore the wonders of the pyramids of Giza. The original entrance to the Great Pyramid of Giza is located 17 meters above sea level on the north side of the pyramid. Above the original entrance, two layers of huge stones are believed to be covering the hallway from the entrance to the burial chamber below. Tourists traveling to Egypt enter the pyramid today through a tunnel that was established by the Fatimid caliph, El Mamoun, in 820 AD.

Some of the travelers touring Egypt would like to go on an even wilder adventure by entering the Great Pyramid of Giza. They would walk for 27 meters in the passageway built by El Mamoun and then they would walk again for about 37 meters to reach the royal burial chamber of King Khufu. This chamber measures about 10 square meters with a ceiling of about 6 meters high. Many of the corridors and chambers within the Great Pyramid of Cheops at Giza are yet to be declared by hundreds of scientists and historians who studied the pyramid.
